Welcome to Backyard Sprouts

At Backyard Sprouts, we are passionate about bringing fresh, organic produce to the heart of the west side. Our mission is to increase access to fresh food in the Hilltop and do our part to reduce our carbon footprint. We do not currently offer online pre-orders, but you can find us at the Westgate Farmers Market May-November.

Who We Are

I was always in the garden with my family as a kid. My parents always had an elaborate garden setup dominated by tomatoes. My great grandma and grandma always had dirt under their nails and my aunt and uncle have gardened and farmed in Iowa for as long as I can remember. As soon as I had a place of my own in college, I had a container garden. Once we bought a house with a decent sized backyard, I got right to work with planning out our garden beds. Our garden space has gotten bigger and bigger every year. At first, I didn't have the intention of selling our produce but in 2024, I grew so much that I knew it would be possible to have enough to sell. We love to cook at our house and nothing is more satisfying than walking out back, picking some tomatoes, green beans, peppers, and herbs to add to our dinner. Living in a food desert has emphasized the importance of improving access to fresh food.
